Questions and Answers about our Moving Services

Can I pack my own removal boxes?

You can pack your own boxes. Some clients elect to pack clothes, books and linen only and leave the more fragile items to us. It should however be noted that any breakages in those boxes packed by the client are the client's responsibility. We do provide a handy tips sheet of instructions for those clients wishing to pack their own belongings. Our moving consultants can assist and advise clients on cost effective ways to part pack in preparation for your move.

Cartons and belongings which are to be transported overseas by air are required to be packed and sealed by King & Wilson security cleared staff.

How should I prepare my fridge for removal?

Your fridge should be emptied and wiped clean throughout. If it is going into storage, wiping the interior with vanilla essence will help keep any mildew at bay. We will store the fridge in accordance with manufacturers recommendations, with the door chocked ajar.

Am I expected to give the removalists any food or drinks when they are working?

You are not expected to do this. However, providing tea, coffee & water for our staff is much appreciated.

How long will my removal take?

This depends on the number of items we are moving and the ease of access. Your Moving Coordinator will be able to advise you of the approximate time we expect your move to take. Most homes require at least a day of pre-packing prior to the removal process.

Are there things I can’t move?

Yes, there are some things that we cannot move. Most of these items fall under the classification of Prohibited Goods such as LPG gas bottles, paints, aerosols and solvents. A full list of prohibited goods is available from our Moving Support pages.

Do I need to be present during the moving process?

You do not need to be present for the entire packing and moving process. However, if you are unable to attend in person, it is important that you nominate an authorised representative to allow our crews access to you home and be present to observe and sign the compiliation of your packing inventory for all interstate, storage and international moves.

What are the dimensions of your cartons ?

A detailed description (including dimensions) of our most commonly used cartons is provided under the Moving Services directory.

Can you pack and move foodstuffs ?

Yes, we can move most dry and tinned foodstuffs. It is highly recommended not to pack or move opened bottles of liquids or other spillable foodstuffs.

How do I prepare appliances such as washing machines before the removal?

You should always refer to the manufacturers instructions. It is imperative that washing machines be prepared properly as these are easily damaged. Most front loading washing machines require the insertion of stability bolts. It is not our responsibility to do this and any damage resulting in adequate security will not be our responsibility.

Will the removalists unpack my cartons for me?

All interstate and international moves include a removalist unpack to benchtop or flat surface. This is a standard service, however only cartons packed by our removalists are unpacked.

Many clients elect the Valet Unpacking option as an additional service. This is an excellent service, which enables you not only to have all your cartons unpacked, but also your cupboards freshly wiped, items sensibly placed into cupboards and drawers, beds made up with fresh linen and fresh flowers in vases. King & Wilson will coordinate the delivery of your items so that our professional valet homemakers are able to have your new home ready for you by the end of your moving day.

Will my packing be done on the same day as my move ?

Depending on the size of your move, the packing of cartons and preparation of fragile objects is normally performed on the day prior to your move. Our packing crews will leave out sufficient items such as linen and limited children's toys and cutlery, so that you can still remain in your home on the night prior to uplift. We recommend you consider a take away dinner on the eve of your move.

If I elect to pack myself and have surplus cartons, am In entitled to a refund?

No, your moving consultant will provide you with an estimate of the cartons you will require should you elect to pack yourself. This estimate is based up an average packing density, which includes a slightly generous allowance for the fact that you are unlikely to pack to the same density as a professional packer. Should you run short of materials when you pack yourself, King & Wilson will in most instances supply you with additional materials at no extra charge.

Do you provide storage?

Yes, King & Wilson are able to provide you with long and short term storage in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Darwin, Townsville, Cairns, Launceston, Mt Isa, Alice Springs, Hobart and Kalgoorlie. We also have climate controlled high security art storage available in Sydney and Melbourne.

How will I know what time my removal crew will arrive?

Our operations department will contact you on the afternoon prior to your pack and/or uplift, delivery to advise you of the scheduled arrival times of our crews.

Can you arrange for my home to be cleaned after my move?

Yes, King & Wilson are able to supply and coordinate cleaning services including oven, window, carpet steam cleaning and verandah sweeping. This is usually coordinated to work in with the completion of work by our removal teams. A King & Wilson Moving Consultant will be pleased to provide you with our full cleaning specifications.

Are you able to move pianos and billiard tables?

Yes, our vehicles contain piano trolleys and many have hydraulic tail lifters. Our staff have also received training and are experienced at disassembling and reassembling grand pianos and multi piece slate billiard tables.

Can I access my goods whilst they are in storage?

There is a charge applicable for unstowing and storage retrieval. You will also require the presence of a storeperson to ensure your safety whilst you are in our warehouses.
